February 27: 90 Degrees Fahrenheit

February 27th, 2011 · No Comments · Abu Dhabi, UAE

This is alarming. We know it will be hot here. For a long time. Like, seven months.

But we don’t expect 90 degrees with two days left in February. Yet there it is.

Seemed hotter than that, actually. Maybe it was just the surprise of it.

Yeah. Talking about the weather when nothing can be done about it.

Just saying. February isn’t supposed to be like this. We shouldn’t be running the AC not even four weeks after Groundhog Day. If we had a Punxsatawney Phil here in the UAE, he would have sunstroke.

February is supposed to be the wettest month here, as well as one of the two coolest. It’s supposed to be nice. This is the Northern Hemisphere. Not supposed to be this hot. The Atacama Desert, the Kalahari, sure; they’re in the Southern Hemisphere.

Hmmm.

It hasn’t rained a drop this month, here in Abu Dhabi, and it’s going to be 90 degrees again tomorrow.

We know it will be horrible from April forward. We expect it. We plan for it. We steel against it. It will be over 110 degrees for days at a time in July, August and September. We know.

But 90 on February 27? An unpleasant surprise. I thought we had at least a month before we got slammed like this.
