The Dodgers topped the Cincinnati Reds 7-4 today in what must have been a bittersweet game, for The Blue.
Because that’s the last time the Dodgers get to play the Reds this season.
The Dodgers are 7-1 vs. the Reds. They’ve owned them this season. Just handled them.
The issue is Everyone Else.
The Dodgers are 27-37 against Anyone Not the Reds. That isn’t a good sign.
If they were .500 against everyone else, that 7-1 vs. the Reds stat would get them to 84-78, and that might well be enough to win the puny National League West — and get them to the playoffs. (Where they would be swept by whomever, but still.)
Where is Aaron Harang when you need him? Bronson Arroyo? Paul Bako? Adam Dunn? And the rest of the Reds, none of whom I can name off the top of my head at this minute. OK, Ken Griffey Jr., but he’s always hurt.
It’s very sad. If the Dodgers had another 10 games with Cincy … maybe they’d have a shot.

Geeze, what a far cry from the battles the Dodgers had during the “Big Red Machine” days. The games now almost seem like a non-sequitar.
In fact, both teams seem like a shadow of those teams from back then. How sad.
