When they create drawings for prizes, in the UAE, they rarely cut corners.

It is not a country where small prizes attract much attention. However, it is a car-loving culture, and a fairly certain way of catching eyes is to give away a high-end sports car.

Like, say, a Lamborghini Gallardo 550 — which goes for about $200,000 and has a top speed of around 200 miles per hour.

Unfortunately, it creates a potentially awkward result:

Such as when a company driver — essentially a cabbie — wins the drawing for the Lamborghini and can’t afford to keep it.

As this story in The National makes clear, the big win by Soupi Abdulla, an India national, is not something he is likely to personally enjoy.

Apparently, his salary driving around workers in his minibus makes him unable to afford the insurance for the car.

He reportedly was approached by more affluent folks, after the winning the drawing in the city of Al Ain, who offered to buy the car from him.

It seems likely he will accept one of those offers.

Al Jazira, the football club in Abu Dhabi, had a big giveaway last year — a Ferrari Italia 458 worth an estimated $270,000 that was won by a science teacher from Cameroon.

No word on whether the science teacher — who won a halftime shootout against another civilian to win the Ferrari — was able to keep his high-powered prize.
