I can understand how coming up with a decent “question of the day” can tax a person’s mind. Especially when he/she is referring to a team well under .500 and floundering like a gaffed tuna.
But this one …
Well, here is the Dodgers’ home page,” as of this writing, and you can’t help but laugh — and then maybe wince — at the question of the day.
To wit: “Who will return from the disabled list first?”
Or as it could have been worded, “which one of these porcelain stiffs we signed for way too much money might limp out on the field before the rest of them?”
If I’m the Dodgers (and we established in the previous item, I am not) … I don’t think I want to remind fans of the existence of Andruw Jones, Jason Schmidt, Gary Bennett and Nomar Garciaparra. Let alone remind us that none of the four can get into uniform at the moment.
Let’s see … the average Dodgers fan’s answer to “who will return first” probably would be “I hope never” for Andruw Jones, “In Ned Colletti’s dreams” for Jason Schmidt, “Who’s he?” for Gary Bennett and “just as soon as he can walk without straining that calf muscle, that is, not in his lifetime,” for Nomar.
Another objectionable feature of the team’s home page is in the lower-right corner, where some brown-nosing employee was shameless enough to put a picture of Frank and Jamie McCourt among the three “favorite photos” teaser.
Oh, puh-lease! If the Dodgers ran 100 “favorite” pictures, Frank and/or Jamie McCourt shouldn’t be among them. Never. Ever. They should be invisible.
Peter O’Malley never would have created an environment where some suck-up would have run his face down there.
And, really, kids, you’ll have to take my word on this … the Dodgers used to be a classy franchise. Honest. Really.
I know, I know. Hard to imagine.
