A Couple Thousand of Us on the Last Bus

August 8th, 2008 · No Comments · Beijing Olympics

I’m working in the Main Press Center as the clock ticks down on the start of Opening Ceremonies. Always a very big deal at the Olympics.

Problem is, the MPC is packed. Even though the first buses to National Stadium (the site of Opening)  left at 2:40 p.m. for the 8 p.m. event … and buses have been leaving every 20 minutes since.

The last bus leaves at 5:40 p.m., and given the number of people in this room, there must be hundreds of reporters who plan to take the last bus.

Which is not going to work. We won’t fit.

Be interesting to see how this works out. It’s 4:02, and I’m starting to get creeped out at how many people are still here, most of whom presumably have tickets for Opening Ceremonies.

I am NOT going to wait for the last bus.
