I’m thinking the Bruins should avoid home games before the end of September. The students aren’t back on campus yet, and their whole approach to the game seems limp and appears to reflect generic disinterest.
The full band can’t be bothered to show up. A school with an enrollment of, like, 200,000 (OK, I exaggerate, but not a hell of a lot) can’t manage to put more than a few thousand in the student section. (Either not in town yet, or don’t care.)
I know UCLA likes the idea of playing Tennessee on national TV, with nobody else playing, college or pro …
But if you have trouble filling huge chunks of the stadium (and the east side of the bowl is half empty) … and your band isn’t there, and you might just get blasted by the visitors …
Maybe wait till the end of the September and play Eastern Tennessee, instead. With the band and students here.
