Let’s see how this works. I am going to post to my blog in 10 minutes. And one minutes is nearly gone.
People who do blogs in their spare time may not grasp how much time it takes to populate a blog.
The scary part of it is that a blog has no deadline that a newspaper writer would know, and the posts can sprawl, buried under research and what we all hope is some interesting writing.
Now, I will jump forward to the body of this post.
You may have bumped into some racing over the past few weeks, as the America’s Cup, which goes back to the 1850, gets ready for the final stages of the race.
There was a clip, widely seen, last week showing the American yacht, Liberty, overturning while traveling at maybe 25 mph. The crew was dunked into the waters off New Zealand, and had a hole punched into it.
Since the race was part of the semifinals of the event, things looked grim for Liberty, which had to forfeit two races while it pursued urgent repairs.
Meanwhile, Italy’s boat, took a 2-0 lead over Liberty in a best-of-seven series, with the winner advancing to meet New Zealand’s yacht, the host for this edition of the America’s Cup.
I mentioned in a recent post how much I like big ships sailing. That goes back to the America’s Cup in its heyday, which I figure is the 1980s, and Dennis Conner because the first American skipper to lose the race, then in 1987 became the first skipper to win back the Cup.
Oops. Outta time!
Hipe it makes sense.
