A Zinger Aimed at Frank McCourt

June 28th, 2011 · No Comments · Baseball, Dodgers

My favorite quote of the day, in the wake of Dodgers owner Frank McCourt filing for bankruptcy, appeared in a collection of bon mots that appeared on the L.A. Times website.

It comes from Bob Daly, who was running the Dodgers until Fox sold them to the McCourts in 2004, a particularly dark day in the history of the franchise.

Said Daly: “Fox, myself and MLB made a horrible mistake in not doing the proper due diligence on Frank McCourt. I helped get him approved, and for my piece I feel very bad about it. …

“He has been an embarrassment to this franchise. The sooner he gets the hell out of town, the better off we’ll all be as Dodger fans.”

Well, OK. That pretty much sums it up.

What I particularly like about this is that Bob Daly is a former baseball executive, a guy who lives in town — someone who isn’t just some other angry fan or blogger. And his fairly violent opinion is another example of the level of disgust in Los Angeles toward McCourt.

Again, I don’t get Frank McCourt’s insistence on hanging around and destroying the team when he could just get out, take his money, and go do whatever it is that amuses him.  Get haircuts every day, buy another house, whatever … just get gone.
