We have a little globe, which is handy for quick reference when questions of “how far we from that” and “are we further north/south/east/west than fill-in-the-blank country?”
Actually, I have two little globes; the other is in the office and you might be surprised by how often I look at it for basic information. (Like, why is it an hour earlier in Yemen than it is here? Wait, because by looking at the globe I realize that most of Yemen is west of Abu Dhabi! I didn’t know that!)
Anyway, we have a few Christmas tree decorations but, alas, no tree. They are available here in the artificial version, which I’ve never been keen about, and the real ones are hugely expensive, which makes sense since you would have to drive a long, long way to find a fir tree you could cut down. The nearest forest to here? Gee, my globe doesn’t tell me that, but it might be, like, India.
So, Leah has brought out these three little decorations and placed them near the globe, and the idea of “Christmas Around the World” just popped into our heads, and I said, “Let’s post it.”
It’s silly, but as we get close to the holidays, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year … around the world. And I hope the photo turns out.
