‘Druw Wasn’t Arrested, Though He Should Have Been

David Lassen of the Ventura County Star sent this along to me. About a guy impersonating a Dodger.

And it came with this notation: “No, it’s not Andruw Jones. I checked.”

Ooh. Good line.

David knows of my deep and abiding admiration for Dodgers outfielder Andruw Jones, who basically stole $18 million from the Dodgers this year.

Jones hit .158 with three homers and 14 RBI in 209 at-bats — in the first year of a two-year, $36.2-million contract.

Jones was supposed to play center field, hit in the 4-hole and slug hit 30 homers. But he showed up out of shape, never got into it, didn’t ever seem particularly to care — and was a big factor in the club’s first-half struggles. He was just a black hole in the lineup, arguably the worst player in the majors this season — especially among those who got 209 at-bats.

So, yeah, Andruw basically “impersonated a Dodger” this season.

But as David noted, this fake big-leaguer … different guy. Though I could see Jones actually turning out to be a 47-year-old man, the way he played.

Oh, and FYI: Jones isn’t even in Los Angeles, where he might have screwed up the Dodgers’ quasi-stirring stretch run against the dregs of the NL West.

Jones is back in Atlanta, according to beat writers. Maybe he should stay there, far away from Dodger Stadium, where he will always be at risk of being arrested for trying to pass himself off as an athlete.
