But it was about 10 minutes before tipoff, when Tiger Woods curled in that birdie putt on No. 18 at Torrey Pines … forcing a playoff tomorrow in the U.S. Open.
And it was sportswriters in the press room here who were making the noise. I guess you are allowed to cheer if it’s an event you’re not covering.
Lakers fans are almost as dead as Thursday. Which is the definition of “clinically” dead.
But lots of stars are among the non-cheering fans. Including Boston honks Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg, and Lakers “fans” Denzel Washington, Jack Nicholson, Paul Abdul (a former Laker Girl), Robert Downey Jr., Lionel Richie and Sean “Puffy” Combs.
Lakers were up 19, now they’re up one, and I predict they lose by double digits.
