A recent trend in the sports-fan blogosphere is to create a website named “FireTheSportsFigureIHate.com”

Just fill in the name of the coach/general manager/player you loathe, get the domain, get busy trashing the guy.

Among those out there and active are firegeorgekarl.com (referring to the Denver Nuggers coach) … and locally, we had dumpdorrell.com, which last posted on Jan. 6, the day the UCLA football coach was ousted. The final post is entitled “Mission accomplished!”

Anyway, if you’re thinking of taking on some of the big targets in the L.A. market … you may have to move fast before someone else snatches the domain name you’re aiming for. And in some cases it may already be too late.

Like FireNedColletti.com … the name is taken, even if no site is up. Yet.

Checking around, here’s what I’ve found:

fireneuheisel.com already exists, referring to UCLA’s football coach. Go there and there’s a home page declaring it to be the “future home” of the site.

(However, it appears you can have fireneuheisel.org, .net, .info or .biz, if you’d like. None of those are as attractive as .com, of course.)

firerickneuhisel.com already exists, too, but it appears to be a cyber squatter — someone sitting on the domain name hoping someone will pay them for the right to use it. It apparently is owned by someone named Michael Burger of Ann Arbor — but his rights seem to expire on Oct. 26, so an industrious (or angry) Neuheisel basher could jump in on Oct. 27 and snatch the domain name, if the guy doesn’t renew.

Update: Just searched for”firerickneuheisel.com” and this is what I found. Mr. Burger will let you have it for $250,000 in donations.

If you’re all primed to rip Slick Rick … I recommend waiting till Oct. 27 to see if Mr. Burger fails to re-up.

firejoetorre.com … already exists, from his waning days in New York. Just a random home page, with nothing around it.

firetorre.com also exists, and is being squatted on by something called Domains By Proxy. Same deal for firenedcolletti.com

However, it appears that firecolletti.com is still available, if one of you wants to get busy.

firemikescioscia is available. As is firetonyreagins. Probably not much demand there, as long as the Angels keep making the playoffs.

On the Lakers front, Nobody has firephiljackson.com, BUT firemitchkupchak.com does exist, with a home page and a manifesto by posted by someone calling himself/herself “return2glory.” The Mitch site hasn’t been updated since last spring.

Looks like most of our action is Dodgers and UCLA football oriented.

Oh, and here is the weirdest one I came across:

firepetecarroll.com is already spoken for. Apparently, the “registrant” is listed as “ABC, PO Box 780, N. Hollywood.” That apparently isn’t the TV station now known as ABC7 … and may have nothing to do with the TV network at all.

But somebody is sitting on it, and has been since March 23. Maybe waiting for the ultra-successful USC football coach to stumble?

An odd business. A fairly distasteful one, too.
