Trojans have taken control. A couple of nice drives, an interception returned for touchdown by Rey Maualuga, and it’s 21-3.
Could have been more, by the Trojans and Mark Sanchez tried to force a play at the end of the half and threw an interception. That would have been three points.
The most impressive players are USC’s Joe McKnight and, I suppose, Sanchez … and Terrelle Pryor for Ohio State.
Pryor will be in charge of the Buckeyes sometime soon. He is far more dangerous back there, especially when he takes off.
What sort of passing accuracy he’s got, not clear. The Buckeyes seem to be going back to the senior on all obvious passing downs. But that may change, after Boeckman threw that pick-six, and also coughed up a fumble — though he was lit up quite violently by blitzing blind-side linebacker Brian Cushing.
If I’m Jim Tressel, I go with the kid in the second half and hope he completes just enough passes to loosen up the Trojans. Becuase he’s scary, in the open field.
Boeckman can’t really run, and he’s not a great passer, either. I don’t see them getting three TD drives with him at QB.
But Tressel is a pretty conservative guy. So maybe he hedges, on a commitment to Pryor who, yes, was in high school a year ago.
