Lakers Game 2: Odom in, Bynum Out

May 6th, 2009 · No Comments · Basketball, Lakers, NBA

More about this later. But Phil Jackson will start Lamar Odom and bring 7-footer Andrew Bynum off the bench.

Bynum got in quick foul trouble in Game 1, and Odom seemed to struggle coming into the game cold.

Phil Jackson believes Bynum is important to his team’s chances, and has been sort of force-feeding him into the lineup.  But it isn’t really working, and down 1-0 with a Must Win home Game 2 … well, it’s no time for on-the-job training.

“It’s one of those damned if you do damned if you don’t situation,” he said. “We know we need the rebouding and shot-blocking and size we have when we have Andrew in there. We’re not as forceful or intimidating without him. But we’re so much better at the offensive end” with Odom in the game.

Jackson noted that the lineup with Odom in it, instead of Bynum, has played “most of the last year and a half” together. While Bynum was out with knee injuries.

Also be interesting to see if Jordan Farmar gets more minutes tonight. He made a cameo in Game 1, drained a three at the end of the third quarter, and that was it.

Also, can Trevor Ariza make some of those wide-open threes? It would help unclog the lane if he or Derek Fisher, who is in a serious shooting slump, could make some threes.
