We know what we would like, here in Southern California.
A Freeway Series. Finally.
We won’t get it. But it could be fun, anyway.
Here’s how I see things unfolding, the next four weeks:
(And this is the updated/corrected version; you’d think I was hurrying to get to an airport, or something.)
American League
Angels defeat Boston in 4
Chicago White Sox over Tampa Bay in 5
Angels over Chicago in 6
National League
Chicago Cubs over Dodgers in 4
Philadelphia over Milwaukee in 5
Philadelphia over Chicago in 7
World Series
Angels over Philadelphia in 6
The Dodgers just aren’t very good. They will be lucky to win one game. The end. Philadelphia seems a little bit more rested, and Milwaukee is short on pitching, with Ben Sheets hurting. … I like the Phillies over the Cubs in part because I think the Cubs’ lesser-known streak (no World Series appearance since 1945) is going to come into play. Somehow. A Bartman moment. Something.
Boston has been the official Angels killer in recent years, but this is the best Angels team ever assembled, and the Red Sox are playing without Manny Ramirez — and with Josh Beckett’s health shaky. I see them wrapping it up in Anaheim. … “Too soon” is my main thought about the Rays. I like them, and their future, but they just haven’t been here. I see them flopping on their first visit to the big stage, as Ozzie Guillen’s White Sox carry this sudden-death momentum into the playoffs. … And then I don’t think the Angels will have all that much trouble with the White Sox.
In the World Series, the Angels demonstrate that the regular season’s best team is also the postseason’s best team. Strong, solid everywhere, well-led by Mike Scioscia. Hoist another flag in Anaheim.

Man, that would be sweet. I just don’t see it happening As much as I think I may be crazy, I think the Dodgers, yes, the Dodgers, will be the team from L.A. that’ll be celebrating come Halloween.
