Apparently, no one in Asia cares about college football except me. And a few other cranks from America.
We have reached a point in the year where the rest of the world is generating almost zero live sports. Pretty much everything is shut down.
Making this, of course, a perfect time to show some college football bowl games from back in the States. And I bet the NCAA and the sponsors and the bowls would hand over live feeds for almost nothing. Or nothing.
But nothing.
This is what I could get, when I wanted to see Northwestern and Missouri:
Last night’s Premier League (England) match between Manchester United and Middlesbrough. Which is at least 12 hours old now.
Tape of Italian League matches played goodness knows how long ago.
Some marginal pro soccer league … I’m thinking Portugal. The sign board appear to be in Portuguese, but it doesn’t look warm enough to be Brazil.
(I don’t mind soccer, but not when it’s a match I’ve seen highlights from, already, about four times.)
Ancient motor racing. Sports cars from, when, August?
Some tennis tournament somewhere, also old, because nobody plays this week.
An endless loop of winter sports news on eurosport … as if anyone in Asia cares about cross-country skiing, Alpine skiing, biathlon, etc. … which is what I am not looking at right this moment.
The Bears and Colts (?) NFL game from, what, two-plus weeks ago? Huh?
The usual taped rugby, which is probably what I would watch, if I weren’t about to leave the apartment.
This is nuts. How about some fresh programming? How about the bowl games? Spectacles, with cheerleaders and bands! And, no, it’s not the NFL, but it’s the next best thing? And you guys show the NFL, off and on.
There are Americans in Hong Kong and Singapore and Malaysia and Indonesia — which seems to be the markets of “Now Sports” … which is now showing women’s singles badminton (I am not making this up) on its No. 1 station right this minute.
Now I’m thinking that, yes, I will be unable to see any of the bowl games, including the Rose and right on through the BCS title game/Orange Bowl.
This is annoying. I don’t think these guys know their market. Or can’t be bothered to pick up a phone or flip a switch and give us college bowls — some of which are on ESPN, which has an Asian version station right here … showing a taped UNC-Rutgers college basketball game.
This is annoying. The risk of trying to follow sports from across an ocean.

…that really blows, dude, if you are indeed correct that none will be broadcast here in the ‘Kong. i was certainly wondering what the scene was going to be with at least the New Years Day bowl games. was maybe hoping DanRyan’s or some other semi-American hole would be showing them. maybe they are. if they’re not, maybe Ronald McDonald would be willing to pipe in a feed. he’s still American, isn’t he???

Well, count your lucky stars you missed today’s scintillating Sun Bowl. But at least the Pac-10 represented. Oregon State 3, Pitt 0.

So you can’t even catch bowl games over the Internet? I’m surprised NCAA

isn’t offering a pay-per-view website to do so.

one positive note – you don’t have to listen to Brent Musberger
