We do not lack for sand, here in the UAE. The whole country is sand, essentially. Except for some rocks up in the north.
Anyway, we don’t need more sand. We don’t need what we already have to be strirred up. But we got that today.
Check out the story via this link.
Then we will come back and discuss.
Oh, here is another good sandstorm photo, in the sense of how much dirt is being moved.
Did you see the most recent Mission Impossible movie? If so, you may remember the monster sandstorm that strikes Dubai while Tom Cruise is fleeing … or chasing … one or the other.
I wrote earlier, on this blog, that I hadn’t actually seen a sandstorm like that one, which appears on the horizon as one monstrous dark cloud … and then nearly blows down Dubai.
Well, for a few hours yesterday, it actually did look like that special-effects sandstorm.
I ventured outside for a moment … and into the worst sandstorm since I’ve been here. Dark and foreboding. Scary. Malevolent.
It didn’t last long, thankfully, before moving on and leaving tons of dirt piled up, here and there.
The sandstorm season is supposed to be over soon. Even long-time residents say this has been a particularly bad stretch.
I’m ready for it to be over.
