Tiger’s Niece … Cheyenne Woods

December 9th, 2014 · No Comments · Dubai

Not many people know who Cheyenne Woods is.

But she had a better time on the golf course last weekend than did her famous uncle, Tiger Woods.

While Tiger was finishing last for the first time in his career, at his annual charity tournament, Cheyenne was securing her first LPGA Tour card at qualifying school in Daytona Beach.

She took congratulatory calls from her parents as well as her uncle, and then got back to business, taking the long flight to Dubai, where this week she will play in the Dubai Ladies Masters — and also bring some celebrity to the tournament.

Cheyenne Woods’s celebrity at the moment is mostly a reflection that comes from her uncle, but she has shown signs of being a successful golfer in her own right.

She won the Atlantic Coast Conference women’s championship while playing for Wake Forest, in 2011, turned pro in 2012 and won her first tournament, joined the Ladies European Tour in 2013 and earlier this year won her first championship on a major tour, in Australia.

Her relationship with Tiger appears to be a good one, though it at times may have been a little complicated.

She is the daughter of Earl Woods Jr., one of three children from Earl Woods Sr.’s first marriage. The latter’s second marriage, to the Thailand native Kultida, produced Tiger.

Golf writers suggest Tiger’s relationship with his three half-siblings is distant, but he has been publicly supportive of Cheyenne. After she won the ACC championship, Tiger tweeted: “My niece, Cheyenne, just won the ACC golf title by 7 shots! That’s awesome, I’m so proud of her.”

She will be followed closely this week in Dubai, where the women’s European Tour plays its last event of the season.
